About Shaping Dogs | Canine Mobility & Conditioning in Devon
At Shaping Dogs, we understand that every dog is unique
Hi, I’m Tracey!
Over ten years ago, my German Shepherd began barking at other dogs and people. At the time, I assumed it was a training issue. It turned out he had a painful condition in his shoulders that made everyday activities uncomfortable. Of course, that discomfort influenced his behaviour in ways I didn’t fully understand then.
Even after his shoulders were treated, some of the behavioural challenges remained. That experience changed the direction of my work completely.
I began studying not just behaviour, but movement, gait analysis, chronic pain awareness, canine conditioning and therapeutic exercise. I wanted to understand how the body and behaviour interact, and how subtle discomfort can shape confidence, tolerance and emotional responses.
My approach
Mobility changes are rarely just mechanical. A dog who is compensating physically may also become more sensitive, hesitant or reactive. Likewise, emotional stress can alter movement patterns.
Today, I specialise in mobility and joint support for dogs experiencing stiffness, age-related slowing or joint changes. My work combines structured strengthening with behavioural insight, so plans are not only biomechanically sound but realistic and confidence-building.
What I focus on
Mobility & Joint Support
Structured movement assessment and personalised strengthening plans designed to support stability, muscle engagement and long-term joint health.
Canine Fitness:
Proactive strength and conditioning for dogs who want to stay strong, capable and resilient. My background in behaviour means I am always considering the whole dog — physical comfort, emotional state and lifestyle environment.
Why this matters
Many dogs show subtle changes long before obvious lameness appears. By the time a dog is visibly struggling, compensation patterns may already be established. I help owners recognise these early shifts and take constructive, practical steps to support their dog’s body safely. This work complements veterinary care and focuses on structured maintenance and strengthening.
My promise
I believe dogs deserve support that respects both their bodies and their emotions. My aim is to help dogs stay strong, stable and confident, and to give owners clarity about what they can do proactively, rather than simply “wait and see.”
